On Saturday 3rd July at 7.15 pm FLOW will take you on an instrumental, vocal and visual journey at the FIFA FAN FEST™ on the Grand Parade in Cape Town in celebration of Africa’s most precious resource – water.
FLOW is bringing together: the sweet vocals of Zolani Mahola (Freshly Ground); Kyla Rose Smith (Freshly Ground) on violin; Ronan Skillen (Babu, Tonik, Hot Water) on the Didge and percussion; Michael Chikowore on Mbira and Donovan Copley (Hot Water) in song and on the ‘afri-can’ guitar; with live mixing by DJs Fletcher Beadon (Krushed and Sorted) and Nicodemus from Brooklyn, NYC.
The collaborative performance will take place on stage in front of the 74m2 screen first used in 2006 by FIFA during the last World Cup in Germany and one of the biggest such structures ever to be erected in South Africa.
The visual journey begins in outer space then transports you down to the depths of the ocean. The audience then ventures above the surface and make their way to the shoreline, to join animals and tribes at the drinking holes. The journey continues down the paths of the rivers, lakes and dams arriving in the cities as we learn how we have sought to control so much when in fact it does not belong to us.
FLOW endeavours to instill in the audience an awareness of how both the planet and ourselves are made up of over 70% water and by making the statement “I AM FOR LOVE OF WATER”, we really mean that we are FOR LOVE OF ourselves, each other and the planet.
This promises to be a constant visual and audio spectacle by top performers that will keep audiences, regardless of age, fully engaged and entertained. From a gentle movement beneath the surface to a powerful drive to find one’s star… as Hot Water performs their hugely popular song “Laduma” live.

ABOUT THE FIFA FAN FEST™, GRAND PARADE CAPE TOWN
The purpose of the FIFA Fan Fest™ is to offer a safe, convenient and convivial alternative to being at the stadium. In line with the “no ticket, no problem” mantra which the City and its partners have adopted, soccer fans who weren’t able to get tickets can still watch all matches live and get to experience the excitement and thrill of being caught up in the roar of the crowd.
The FIFA Fan Fest will be open daily between 11h00 and 23h00 from 11 June to 11 July. In between watching soccer, visitors will be entertained by quality performances from talented locals and popular big-name artists such as Goldfish, Freshly Ground, the Rudimentals, Danny K, Ladysmith Black Mambazo, the Guguletu Tenors and many more.
Food and refreshment kiosks will offer a taste of traditional Cape Town with dishes such as Malay chicken curry, lamb neck poitje, boerewors rolls and fish gourjons, along with perennial favourites like prego rolls, pizza, hot dogs, hamburgers and steaming hot soup. Snacks, as well as hot and cold drinks, will be on offer. Wine and beer will be available for sale to visitors over the age of 18.
The Grand Parade has a capacity for 25 000 and numbers will be strictly controlled by the private security, emergency services and SAPs forces on the ground. To enter the FIFA Fan Fest™, visitors will need to pass through security check points positioned in Darling Street and at the corner of Buitenkant and Longmarket Streets. Children under the age of 14 will have to be accompanied by an adult and items of food, alcohol, weapons or drugs being brought into the Fan Fest will be confiscated.
